Contrac Lighting

Contrac Lighting was established as a lighting company in 1986 when we started assembling light fittings from the first floor of our then parent companies building in Hull.

We moved to our own premises in Howden East Yorkshire in 1989 and it was at this time that we started to design and manufacture our own fittings after investing heavily in our own plant.  In our first few years of manufacturing we concentrated on commodity products to build our knowledge and expertise and sold into the wholesale trade throughout the UK.

With several successful years behind us and contracts with Curry’s, Boots, Mercedes, William Hill amongst some of the names we were working with we decided it was time to broaden our product range. We worked closely with our partners Philips and Tridonic and spent several years developing new innovative energy saving products which lead us to where we are today, a company that prides itself on design, development and manufacturing of the most energy efficient products available with the backup of guarantees from the world market leaders in energy efficient control gear.

In 2001 we purchased our 28000 square foot building in Goole and have continued to manufacture from there for the last 11 years each year building improving and growing the business. We have added Stagecoach, Tesco, Pure Gym, Shoe Zone, numerous schools, universities and hospitals and many large factories to our portfolio of satisfied customers.

We believe that our size is our strength and if we don’t have a product to give our client the perfect solution we will work closely with them to ensure that we develop one so we never compromise on the client’s requirements to feed a large production line.  We are continuing to work with our partners and are developing a substantial range of LED fittings which will not only offer considerable energy savings but will do this without compromising on light levels, safety or comfort of the user.

Contrac Lighting is a family run company owned by Anne and Kelvin Shone after a management buyout in 1992.  We have 35 employees and believe very strongly in building the team together. We are very proud of the company and the fact that we have continued to manufacture in the UK despite the difficulties crossed by the onslaught of cheaper products from China.

We believe this has now paid off as the products we have stand on their own merit for quality, price and above all are environmentally friendly.  We work very closely with our 2 key partners in business Philips and Tridonic and benefit from their extensive research and knowledge in the most innovative technology when developing our products which allows us the peace of mind to offer the extensive guarantees that we do on our products.
